Yumi's Bakery featured on KCCI

KCCI's Steve Karlin did a piece on Yumi's Bakery and Deli on July 27th. If you didn't catch it you can see it here.

I can almost guarantee you'll be wanting to take a walk down to Yumi's the next day!

School District News

Something I didn't know that I learned listening to Edie Eckles on KGRN's "Let's Talk".....

Superintendent Eckles has started a blog, News from the District Office. It's got some interesting info on various topics. The one that I enjoyed the most is the thought provoking video "Shift Happens". I'm glad to see evidence that the district is mindful of the things brought up in this video.

Local news & info on KGRN

KGRN and their affiliate stations have been working hard to make their website a source for local news and info. The weekly "Let's Talk" program features a nice range of folks from Grinnell giving updates on all sorts of interesting Grinnell topics.

The Empire Strikes.... GRINNELL

A very cool video "STAR WARS GRINNELL" won the annual Titular Head student film fest for Grinnell College last year. It's about 5 minutes long and is a lot of fun.
(Yes - that's the Millenium Falcon sitting inside the PEC in the picture.)

New Blog for Area Writers

There's a new blog in town that might be of interest. "This Grinnell Life" is a blog started by the Grinnell Writers' Consortium. They had their first public workshop in early February and were led by Iowa writer Mary Swander (Mary was named Iowa Poet Laureate in late February). The workshop resulted in several writings that were posted to the new blog. The hope is that the blog will be a place that group members may share their future work as well.

Take a moment to check it out at http://thisgrinnelllife.blogspot.com/

If you're interested in joining the group contact Claire Moisan.

New Online Community Calendar

The Chamber of Commerce is now hosting an online calendar of local events which are open to the public. This calendar is the result of meetings between representatives of the college, the city, Grinnell Tourism and a variety of other individuals who are interested in having a single place for people to go to find out what there is to do in town on any given day.

See the calendar here.

All local organizations are encouraged to contact the Chamber at gcrec@grinnellchamber.org to have their events added to the calendar.
